In the weekly newsletter of the Coventry Ordinariate Mission you can read the following announcement of the upcoming Harvest Festival, which is being held on a weekday because Catholic liturgy does not permit the same flexibility in selecting harvest-themed readings, propers, etc. on a Sunday as we were accustomed to in the Anglican Church. This is an interesting point. Hopefully the attendance does not suffer because of the change of day.
HARVEST THANKSGIVING MASS
Friday 3rd October 2014 – 7pm
This year our Harvest Thanksgiving for the gifts of God’s creation will be on Friday 3rd October, CAFOD Harvest Fast Day. Having it on a weekday allows us to pull out all the stops and have harvest readings, propers and hymns, whereas on a Sunday we’re bound by the readings and propers set for that day.
Please give this occasion your full support by being here and spreading the word to others. As a token of your thanks to God you are invited to offer non-perishable food items during the Mass which will be given to Coventry FoodBank. Any monetary gifts you may wish to bring will go to CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development).
