Fr. David Ousley writes about next year’s World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia

Our second adult forum on the World Meeting of Families catechism, Love is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive, is set for December 14th. Courtesy of Mark Shiffman, the morning class at St Michael’s* will host Deacon Chris Roberts, one of the people most involved in preparing the catechism. (* St Michael the Archangel, Philadelphia – the Adult Forum follows the 9 am Sunday Mass at Holy Cross Church, 140 E. Mount Airy Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19119)

Having Deacon Roberts with us is a special privilege, and I hope as many people as possible will make the effort to be there. The evening class at the Newman Fellowship will (alas) have to make do with me. In either case, those taking part should read the second chapter of the book.

Since last month, when I mentioned the World Meeting of Families coming to Philadelphia in September, 2015, the visit of Pope Francis at the end of the World Meeting and for two days following has now been confirmed. The details of his visit have not been announced, beyond his participation in the World Meeting and an outdoor Mass on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on Sunday, September 27th.

If you live in the region and would like to host a family during the Meeting, you can list your offering on the World Meeting website, . Given that there are only some 20,000 hotel rooms available in the region, people will need to provide accommodation. Beth and I have offered space in the rectory (first) to clergy of the Ordinariate, and have four priests who have already reservations in.

You can also go to the website to register for the Meeting, and see the current details on the program. They will be looking for volunteers, with opportunities listed after New Year’s. The prayer for the event, which I encourage you to pray daily:

God and Father of us all,
in Jesus, your Son and our Savior,
you have made us
your sons and daughters
in the family of the Church.
May your grace and love
help our families
in every part of the world
be united to one another
in fidelity to the Gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family,
with the aid of your Holy Spirit,
guide all families, especially those most troubled,
to be homes of communion and prayer
and to always seek your truth and live in your love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!
