Interesting timeline from Fr. Vaughn Treco, Minneapolis

A Still Settling Whirlwind

Early last summer, the long quiet journey toward the Altar of God that the Lord had asked our family to walk was suddenly taken up into a whirlwind. Our nine years of calm gave birth to 14 months of almost frenetic activity and movement. Very little in our family life has been left untouched by Christ and his efforts to get us ready for my priestly ordination and service.

• June 2014: In Washington, DC, Bishop Andrew Cozzens and Monsignor Jeffrey Steenson confer about the possibility of my ordination;

• October 2014: Over breakfast in Arlington, VA, Monsignor Steenson informs me that the Ordinariate would like to petition the Holy See for a rescript for my ordination to the Diaconate and Priesthood;

• November 2014: Our first grandson, Jude Michael Treco, is born in Norfolk, VA;

• November 2014: First introduction to and dinner with Brother John-Bede and Don Wortham, members of the Society of Saint Bede the Venerable in Saint Paul, MN;

• November 2014: Candidacy interview with Archbishop John Nienstedt at Saint Paul Seminary and School of Divinity, Saint Paul, MN;

• November 2014: Pre-Ordination Psychological Evaluation in Saint Paul, MN;

• December 2014: Bishop Cozzens encourages me to relocate my family to Minnesota;

• December 2014: Divine Worship with and Coffee Hour introductions to a few more members of the Society of Saint Bede the Venerable at Church of the Holy Family, St. Louis Park, MN;

• December 2014: On Christmas Day, Norma is hired as the Long-term Substitute Second Grade Teacher for Pope John Paul II Catholic School, Minneapolis, MN;

• December 2014: Apple puts my Virginia-Minnesota transfer process into high gear;

• January 2015: Norma visits with grandchildren to say goodbye before leaving for Minneapolis, MN;

• January 2015: Norma spends her last day at Aquinas School saying goodbye to her students and colleagues;

• January 2015: On the morning of the 6th, Norma catches the 5:35 EST flight to Minneapolis via Charlotte;

• January 2015: Norma starts as the new Long Term Substitute Second Grade Teacher at Pope John Paul II Catholic School on the 7th;

• January 2015: Vaughn spends month packing while he spends his nights between three friend’s homes, the De Gances, the Wykowskis and the Zadniks;

• February 2015: On the afternoon of the 6th, Vaughn surprises Norma by arriving in Minnesota two days ahead of schedule;

• February 2015: Norma, Jacqui & Cathryn join Vaughn as he preaches the Islandwide Lenten Mission for the Archdiocese of Nassau, in Nassau, Bahamas;

• March 2015: Vaughn preaches the Islandwide Lenten Mission for the Archdiocese of Nassau, in Freeport, Grand Bahama, Bahamas;

• April 2015: Pope Francis approves my ordination and signs rescript authorizing ordination to the Diaconate and Priesthood at Vatican City;

• April 2015: Dates of diaconal and priestly ordinations established by Archbishop Nienstedt and Monsignor Steenson;

• May 2015: Norma and I relocate to temporary housing at the rectory on the Saint John Campus of Saint Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, Hopkins, MN;

• May 2015: Archbishop Nienstedt ordains me and nine other men to the Transitional Diaconate at 10:00 AM on May 2nd at the Basilica of Saint Mary, Minneapolis, MN;

• May 2015: Bishop Andrew Cozzens ordains me as a Priest for the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter, on Sunday, May 3rd at 1:30 PM at Church of the Holy Family, St. Louis Park, MN;

• May 2015: My Thanksgiving Mass, including the Baptism of my grandson, celebrated on Monday, May 4th, on the Feast of the English Martyrs, at 11:00 AM at Church of the Holy Family, St. Louis Park, MN;

• May 2015: My appointment as the Chaplain of the Society of Saint Bede the Venerable in St. Louis Park, MN, begins;

• May 2015: Norma’s and my temporary housing at the rectory on the Saint John Campus of Saint Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, Hopkins, MN, extended;

• May 2015: As I awaited my permanent assignment within the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Bishop Cozzens invited me to serve as the principal celebrant for the Church of Saint Peter, Richfield, MN;

• June 2015: The Society of Saint Bede the Venerable starts celebrating Divine Worship on the first Sunday of each month. Our two grandchildren, Lilo (2 years 9 months) and Jude (8 months), come to spend the summer. I continue full-time employment at Apple, and celebrate Mass at various parishes across the Archdiocese;

• July 2015: I receive a letter officially appointing me as the Chaplain at Providence Academy, offer Meal Prayer at The Headmaster’s Dinner at Providence, and continue at Apple and celebrating Mass at various parishes;

• August 2015: Norma and I relocate to our “permanent” rectory home in Hopkins (about 2 miles from where we’ve been staying since May);

May the whirlwind finally settle on what has been a wonderful, grace-filled year!
