Great to see the new icon of Our Lady of the Southern Cross. I recall that there was an announcement that it was in the works, but missed the unveiling. I personally found the previous image sentimental and trivial. So glad that there is now a theologically worthy alternative.

Off-topic – do you know sth. about the communities from Torres Strait which wanted to enter the Australian Ordinariate?

It has been very quiet on the Torres Strait front for a long time, as indeed with those in the Anglican Catholic Church in Australia seeking Ordination. There may be a clue in the fact that the Church of Torres Strait website is no longer active. I just keep on praying for them.

      porys,

At the time of the announcement that the Church of the Torres Strait had reached an agreement to come into the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross, I remarked that the process of its reception would be exceedingly difficult because there are very few Catholic resources in the region. IIRC, there’s just one parish of the Diocese of Cairns, and the nearest ordinariate congregation, located in Cairns, is not exactly close.

I’m also very anxious for news of progress in this regard, but it’s likely that the news of progress will come only in the form of addition of the former congregations of the Church of the Torres Strait to the listing of congregations on the web site of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross as the receptions occur.

The good news is that the reception of the Church of the Torres Strait will make valid masses more readily available to any members of the Catholic Church who might be present within that region!

      Norm.
